Salt Lake City Child Support Attorneys

Both parents have an obligation to support their children financially. Generally, child support is established using the amount of time the child spends with each parent, in combination with the parent's incomes, in establishing what the amount of child support will be. We can help with establishing child support, collection efforts or when a child support order needs to be modified based on changed incomes or custody.

At Just Law, our lawyers will work closely with you to provide legal counsel regarding the ongoing financial support and care of your children. Contact our Salt Lake City child support lawyers to schedule an appointment.

Amount of Child Support Payments

In Utah, child support payments are determined according to a legislative formula that considers:

  • Income of each parent
  • The number of children
  • The amount of time spent with each parent

All forms of income from any source are included in this calculation, including salary, wages, commissions and royalties, bonuses and benefits, although Utah's child support statutes limit consideration of income to the equivalent of one full-time job for the purposes of calculating child support. When representing the parent receiving child support, our attorneys will use their investigative skills to make sure that all sources of income of your child's other parent are discovered and included in this calculation, to ensure that you receive the full amount you are entitled to for care of children under the law.

Conversely, when representing the parent making child support payments, we will make sure that your income is properly documented and reported so that you do not pay more child support than is required.

Child Support Modification Lawyers, Representing Bountiful Residents

We can assist with modification of your existing child support order if your, or your child's other parent's, circumstances change in a way that affects the amount of child support that should be paid, including the loss of income, the birth of a new child or a change in custody and visitation arrangements.

Our lawyers can also seek enforcement of an existing child custody order when one parent fails to make payments.
